It is with great excitement that we share today Dubsmash has been acquired by Reddit.

In the long arc of Dubsmash’s journey, this is an important milestone and pivotal moment. By joining forces with Reddit, we expand our ability to serve the creators that represent the lifeblood of Dubsmash, helping them connect, share, and deepen their impact on culture. We are excited to accelerate Reddit’s focus on video, bringing our tools and technology to their passionate, rapidly-growing user base and sparking evermore forms of creation.

Perhaps most importantly, it is the coming together of two organizations who share a deep and unconventional commitment to 1) a broad breadth of creators, far beyond what is typically represented, and 2) a focus on creation over consumption. It has always been our belief that these two factors fuel creativity and we are excited to join a team that has embodied these ideas since day one.

Going forward, Dubsmash will be run as its own entity and brand within Reddit, continuing to focus on developing trusted creator tools, creating a safe and welcoming platform for underrepresented communities, and providing pathways for the next generation of cultural vanguards to grow and expand their livelihoods.

We are incredibly proud of our team, who have braved the twists and turns of this ride, propelling our mission to elevate creators and tirelessly building every day. In the face of moments that felt bleak, our team persevered and committed. Our journey together continues, and we’re just getting started.

We are grateful for our investors, who have supported us at every turn, showing up as true empaths and collaborators. Their alchemy of expertise, understanding, and guidance have been invaluable throughout this journey, not just in getting to this moment. We count Danny Rimer of Index Ventures, who has been with us since day one, Niko Bonatsos of General Catalyst, who believed in our second wind, Gordon Rubenstein and Fred Davis of Raine, who have provided us guidance at every step of the way, Max Niederhofer of Heartcore who encouraged us to move closer to where our users were, and unquestionably, Nihal Mehta of Eniac, who has been our greatest cheerleader. There have been countless others. Oftentimes, entrepreneurs question why you should raise money. These folks are the reason why.

We’d like to give the final thanks to our incredible legal team at Gunderson Dettmer. Neil Toomey and the team are the best lawyers in the business. Oftentimes, lawyers end up acting as your counselor, advisor, and mentor. The team at Gunderson did all three in every conversation.

We’re looking forward to joining the incredible team at Reddit and reaching new heights together.

Onward —
